5:30 pm
the obvious risk the number of dead the number of injured we've seen mounting here was nothing in comparison to gaza but it is still mounting here in the occupied west bank ok hurry for live from bethlehem thank you very much indeed we do appreciate it and really hope it stays reese the become as the day progresses but for harry thank you very much let's take you back inside guards and i were joined by sami up and saw them is palestinian journalist ana residents of gaza sami where you joining us former. first of all right now we are here inside the compound of ministry of health which is severely damaged last night and during bombing. we have just met there dr ashraf after that of the spokes here some of them innocent of him he told me that. that
5:31 pm
main and before the gaza strip the man that which said of his and the gaza strip has completely stopped which means all 19 tests are to stop which means that it is another new danger to beside bombing and killing that the danger of spread of. 19 another thing he mentioned that there is a shortage of disposables and the medication inside gaza gaza and he area and time national organisation by just going to hell but gaza people to speak should be in that meet the colonel in the me they can feel another point just like there there is a lot so for public works by municipality and the emergency teams they are in a moving some rubble of the from the main roads especially the one and one and with the road which leads to achieve a hospital also the municipality mentioned that there is
5:32 pm
a shortage of equipment especially. the and said that their. best out of all this one's. body all day out of 25 years old saw the minutes about it itself is in need for new equipment and the equipment to be able to repaired that need to work over electricity and therefore water he mentioned also that there is shortage of over fresh water because there is this ally is a sham. station near out of the sea and has been stopped also. because of israeli bombing. while we are talking to you now we hear we are hearing some bombs bombings and brands still in the sky and here are some bombings of the latest bombing we have here in bit. and also across the gaza strip i would like to mention that better bombing last night. the airstrike bombed
5:33 pm
a building next close to a ministry of health and. which hosts the cut out of. the cut out of the red crescent and some relief relief organization charity organization which or which backed by and for funded by us aid and american organizations and also other n.g.o.s so just to recap of for you for being telling us there sami the palestinian ministry of health has been born the gases only 19 testing facility has been destroyed katter's red crescent clinic has been bombed and mensa coup aid clinics provided by you know e.u.'s c. and united states organizations have also been born just give us
5:34 pm
a sense of taking out of these medical facilities what sort of impact does that have on people in gaza because we're talking to you in the middle of the covert 19 pandemic effectively what you've just reported the fact that there is no more covert status thing facilities means that guys this essentially on its own it has no ability to test. any anyone or anything for a coronavirus so there's a real risk that that medical emergency could once again spiral. right of control in the middle of this parallel medical emergency which is medical facilities and hospitals and residential buildings being bombed. actually. the gaza strip is defying a spread of covering 1000 even before this war even before this is condition and it
5:35 pm
has become more and more dangerous because of the israeli of course because of the 14 is raining use of siege but the danger is collated with that war because thousands or thousands of people at least 40000 people 40000 families a fled their houses at the tips of the gaza strip and they took shelter took us under our schools as shelters inside each school at least $1000.00 people inside i have seen a set of the i visited the school is what you are used as shelters and i have seen lots of families kids women and men at a crowded inside the rooms without any protection majors which means they're desperate of course they're 19 will increase again and they gain all of this along bombing along to see how long shortage of disposable disposables and
5:36 pm
their lives and the closure of the comair share the closure of the the crossing which means that there is no and with the. aid that is coming that's why the production of that or the spokesperson of minister of health and sister that the gaza strip is living on the civil it is 6 risk of bombing risk of targeting gay families inhabited houses and that it's called and other chronic diseases also like renal failure failure or a. car that is easy. blood pressure on their beat us also they are in need some medication but they received nothing so far ok very troubling situation indeed sami abu salim there reporting live from outside the bomb palestinian ministry of health sami thank you. were aware i was speaking with our correspondent need to
5:37 pm
abraham who is at the scene near ramallah when the gunfire broke out there hear some of that moments took more about what brings these protesters here we're joined now by a palestinian who was at the protest play alley how. we you have been living here you were born and raised under occupation what makes you think that this. meeting. we're seeing the crowds are leaving we're not sure what's going on there are people palestinians who are who are static. you dictating to say sixty's. yes yes we are ducking now because the kids like. the. meter and needs and we're going to we're going to we're going to let you get
5:38 pm
to play 66 it sounds rather dangerous where you're reporting from need to abraham we're going to check in with you and come back later on. and so these abraham we can confirm is safe and well she joins us now again from near ramallah in the occupied west bank needs a religious reminding viewers of. how that runs of violence broke out its appropriate value were met made since a few waves and activists who was at the scene nice things have been continuing and in the background behind you just bring us up to date on what the situation is like nauru and and how many people were injured in that are brick a far. according to the top thing in the health ministry 125 year old has been killed by israeli forces fire and by that live
5:39 pm
ammunition they say that they say that he arrived at the palestine medical complex in a critical condition already and we can't confirm whether that injury has been after we've seen the confrontation fire or before that because since we've been here on the scene near the league it is really settlement of we've been seeing these really army used life fire against these protesters and according to the palestinian red crescent the transfer of more than 160 palestinians in different confrontations that are going on now in different cities in the occupied west bank with all in all from normal law at least 16 people were injured and a pool of them where in the critical condition i'm assuming one is the 25 year old that you just reported to has been killed and they said that the majority injuries have been quite life i mean
5:40 pm
a shooting now when it comes to the scene here we're seeing more and more postini and go back to the protest site there are still enough and much less numbers than we've seen at the beginning of the proof is more. palestinians were joining that it was the biggest protests that we've seen in the here and new drama law and media city since the start of the escalation on monday but now after the exchange of fire we've seen many palestinians leave the scene and some where with their children with their families they were standing here. near where we are standing which is the hit overlooking the confrontations and then when they heard that many families have fled that indeed some protesters have left the scene as well and just in terms of hundreds of confrontation at star see. the sparks that seasons of the flames all prudes. could you just talk us through
5:41 pm
what would happen to be understands that it involves far we're going to draw some states just focus to the order of events is as you understand it. as we understand we have been seeing it drawn off tear gas bombs flying over the protesters and riot in. them and we've also heard just because i before you came up live to me lots and lots of fireworks and mutually these have been used in the past few days in the pubis to kind of disrupt the way of the israeli people and then we heard the gunshots we believe that these is the gunshots were from kenyans we've seen people leaving the scene and then we saw with the israeli soldiers retracting it seems to get more reinforcement which we seem to get are on it with
5:42 pm
a shooting so of course that this is not to forget that this week the army has also shocked the protesters or sorry the palestinians that we believe have been shooting at them and then when is. they came back here to a discreet they came back with more forces with more military jeeps and with tear gas bombs firing at the protesters who have fled the scene and ran away from the police before they made it way back this is our understanding of what happened we do have more information but according to these radio army they've been burned to soldiers have been wounded in that exchange the case of syria is really soldiers who have been wounded at least 16 palestinian protesters. as well and 4 in a critical condition one of those 4. are still unclear but at least 125 year
5:43 pm
old. succumbed to his injuries from my fire. that process needs abraham their 1st live from the process sites just outside ramallah nida thank you let's head back to bethlehem in the occupied west bank ari force has been deployed there he joins us now live what's happening in the background there earlier when we were speaking there were protesters burning tires and all sorts which necessitates in the sense it's etudes are all there is a response. from the israelis what is happening just night. well i mean as we were saying earlier on what seems to be the pattern is a push back retreat and then a response again from the palestinian protesters you can see them. quite close to
5:44 pm
the israeli military base here you can see them throwing. stones and using slingshots to throw objects we've also seen a lot of glass marbles being fired up in this direction as well plume from slingshots and catapults and so this is this is how it is playing out the numbers are certainly much less than we saw at the beginning of this process when there was a substantial march of hundreds of people down this road which was before any of this could really get under way tried to be dispersed by a very substantial substantial as a model coming in a substantial amount of tear gas and so the majority of that crowd was fired into the middle of and since then it's been this pattern of starting throwing followed by pretty overwhelming response from the israeli side a little earlier on we saw the troops rush out and rush
5:45 pm
a group just like this who are much closer about 5070 meters away and try to capture them at least one of them was taken down he was wrestled the way. and at that point as well a sniper unit took up position lying on the street with the school other away in their sights i have to tell you the injury numbers here so far they're getting pretty old now but they are still the most recent numbers we have 9 people have been injured with live fire 11 people injured with rubber coated steel bullets one of them a puncture wound in the leg and dozens more more than 50 even in these old numbers . were injured by tear gas some of them taken to hospital because of the extent of that tear gas. in the years we can huge amount of gas fired at any one time a real concentration in a large group of people so it can be very debilitating and so you were describing there are some of the weapons that are being to toyed against the palestinian
5:46 pm
princess. the tear gas quartz or that chemically treated water. that certainly sticks to things it takes days is my understanding for the the sent to die day and in return from the palestinians just talk us through the the weapons and i use that term in inverted commas. the weapons that they are firing in return and we can see a tire burning rocks being hurled with slingshots and marbles what sort of effect do these rigid men weapons what kind of effect do they have on the. israeli military hardware. well i mean i think that you can you can get a clear answer it's very minimal. the they have
5:47 pm
a bit of an effect on the media here who are worried about their cameras and their computers but the the soldiers are behind at the moment very thick concrete and hatches which can be closed which is defended by metal and of course they have to be out during capabilities that we've been talking about not least guns which they've been firing live bullets from and so it is. that that is the picture of the quality going one way is no by by no means matched with that coming the other it's not the story that we've been hearing from. from back to you in the northern part of the occupied west bank from where. has been reporting there hasn't been any gunfire that we're aware of coming the other way from the palestinians in fact let me just walk over i'll show you in fact here's one right now pick it up. this is what is just. this is what has just come in
5:48 pm
i just picked it up and put there's another one just at my feet now it's it's a child's mobile it's a few grams in weight so obviously another one you can probably hear coming in obviously that strikes you in the eye at full speed it could potentially do a good deal of damage but it is going to start my car and saying i should hold it up maybe you can focus on it or something like that hit you right in the face or high speed they could certainly do some injury but a pretty minor injury most likely and straight in the eye perhaps you could do some more that more damage but we're talking about the military a major power here in the middle east ranged against what we're seeing right now here on the protesters here behind us certainly they are in the distance there heidi but certainly i mean those are children's marbles rocks which of course could to your great deal of damage if you weren't wearing through the armor and in an
5:49 pm
armored it's truck. also i mean there are 2 comes in iraq now i think another rock . the way you do you have your helmet on me which is a bit of a relief after a best here is there i mean are there any there is there a military presence near you what are they storing those rocks. i mean i don't i know this is not usually done but do you want to just take the camera off. of the tripod is that possible i think it's not going to be possible but maybe you can just pan around and we can show you the very close. nature of what we're next to here the wall. this is the wall that we're standing next to this round cylindrical tower is the military sort of watchtower is overlooking this street so you can see the barbed wire but you can see all the graffiti on the blocks around here so this. is what they what is being targeted and
5:50 pm
again it does sort of go to show what is the nature of the weaponry versus the defenses you can see the palestinian flag in the distance there i think where we don't need to set up entirely here austin we just need to give them a flavor of what it is i mean we can come back down the street now we are more rocks coming in and you make a good point yes it's not just models here it's larger stones as well which rocks which are which are coming in so they certainly can do some damage but you can see the fortified nature of what the israeli military has in place right here overlooking this road in occupied in the occupied west bank ok so still very much protesters there with their rigs immensely weaponry of children's marbles and rocks. earlier on when we were speaking to you when there was there that just took us through what that is what was that that's
5:51 pm
just exploded by. is this place looks like it was not a stumbling or apply work it was at that was a fireworks set off by one of the palestinian protesters ok so. earlier when we were talking to you there was a bit more of a sleeper bringing you the live pictures now we can see the protesters behind you saw farm workers going off there are more rocks in coming. there are more storms quite a good are muchly to get up the length of that room as they are quite some distance away but. earlier when we were speaking there really did seem to be a very heavy police presence because there were a lot of protesters that the military were trying to clear from the area once the protesters have been there rather flashpoints in the city that the protesters are going to. the that are going to try and regroup or are there other
5:52 pm
protests ryans bethlehem. that are likely to. that are likely to it's happened during the afternoon. well there is you coming up to 6 pm now that is when there was meant to be a protest at manger square near the church of the nativity. that is that was always likely to be less violent than this this is a very deliberate confrontation between protesters and. during your right ok. all reflected and i think maybe we should i think move over here why don't you guys get to somewhere a little bit safer let's just. what i just move out of shorts and we can maybe just leave the camera a lot of. cake and i can continue talking to you but maybe we can just be a bit more aware of our surroundings and hurt another colleague just got in the
5:53 pm
game or if you're going to try and live and if you leave your cameras running just so that we can see this because there do you see the spear lot more rock so coming . those protesters are gradually moving up the road that while we're showing the pictures from your position there in bethlehem were also showing our viewers live shots from nablus. we've got a split screen there we can see those protesters in bethlehem are getting an awful lot closer so you can see those. young protesters getting a bit closer to the screen running back. and retreating a little further down that road snow all over on. the right hand side of. our viewers television screens they will see the scenes from nablus now again we have protesters aren't with rocks and we can see tear gas canisters getting fired
5:54 pm
back in return. here gas canisters in fires in return and protesters with sling shots and rocks were also quite a lot of tear gas looks like being fired in nablus. we were also showing our viewers earlier from nablus there was a wall of tires and when those that wall of tires gets set ablaze an awful lot more black smoke if we head back to the left hand side of the screen this is a live shot from bethlehem just in the roads. so here's can really can get an appreciation of the process that are happening across the occupied territories so in bethlehem more fires being set and more protesters
5:55 pm
aren't with rocks when injury ok come back to us if you can so. sorry what's happening. here from what's happening where you are hiring. and we're ok here. is your turn to live bullets directly towards can you hear me yes we can what's been happening where you are can you hear me hala i'm sorry we can hear you. live bullets 2 of them we just heard. ok live bullets 2 of them just in the last few seconds fired in the direction it seems of the protesters they scattered we've got one injury we could definitely see apparently i didn't see with my own eyes but my producer is telling me that we have one person. in come in come the i'm going to try and take away that injured person so earlier they were going out with tear gas i must say as well there was light used earlier but in terms of this immediate surroundings of the military position here earlier
5:56 pm
we saw them go in with tear gas with chemical laced running water and with a sniper stationed at one stage after very. dispersed the crowd and arrested one man now we're seeing sniper fire from a distance into those. protesters that we've been describing throwing rocks throwing more balls. and we're seeing we do we know what we are going to get into we are going to. ok a lot of good will that ambulances no tearing off at a fair clip 3rd zone the roads. do you know. a 3rd shot just then. ok that's a 3rd shots. so that at. least 3 shots of life ammunition that have been fired. are al-jazeera producer has seen one
5:57 pm
protester a direct hit from that live ammunition and an ambulance has no sped away we are assuming with that injured process in the background harry do you know if the snipers are still in the area. well i mean they have justified 3 shots from very close i can't tell you exactly what their position is it seems that it could be from the building that we just showed you a few minutes ago to our right. obviously the sound is reverberating around it's hard to triangulate precisely within a career but yes there is a stairs and obviously. pretty clearly i can't i wasn't looking at the team but. i can tell you that earlier in the day there was a sniper team station down here we know that the israeli soldiers have been using live during the course of this protest here in jerusalem we heard going out from
5:58 pm
very close to where we are which is very close to was an israeli position so all the signs would indicate that this is really sniper fire being used on a group of protesters that we just saw a few minutes ago throwing rocks and marbles at their position here ok. if you could just so that's 3 shots of live ammunition that have been fired we've seen at least one protester being injured loaded into the back of an ambulance but you have been on the scene talking to me for the last. hour or 2 just give us a sense of what has been happening remind our viewers you're just joining us live on al-jazeera of what has been happening in your position in bethlehem in the occupied west bank who has the afternoon starts to just talk us through how we got
5:59 pm
to this position right here. certainly let's go through it chronologically we are just around 6 pm just coming up to 6 pm now. the protesters started gathering a little bit before 1 pm and at about 130 there was a major. march down this street that you're looking down with us in the direction of our camera which is also very close to where the israeli military position is here overlooking the street almost as soon as they got to a little bit further away from the smoke and the the large rubbish bin and this man who's been walking around here. really quite recklessly given that he's not part of the protest for much of the day a little bit a little bit further down the street from there as soon as they got to that position there was a major rush by the israeli military jeeps burying tear gas canisters on their reframing launcher they tried to disperse it almost immediately in very large
6:00 pm
concentrated numbers so that protest that demonstration that march was dispersed very quickly and since then it has been this kind of thing in a greater or lesser number of people throwing stones using slingshots to use to project marbles in this direction as well getting as close as they can try to just act in a defiant manner half the time make gestures use body language to show that they are afraid of the israeli soldiers that is the message that they're trying to convey there are 2 roads that converge on this point we're looking down the main one there's also another one almost in peril of a slight angle to it and there is well we've seen people approaching this position again doing the same thing throwing rocks at every every few minutes once this is been happening for maybe 5 or 10 minutes and they've been getting closer and closer and closer and try.
